The Boeing 737-8, also known as the 737 MAX 8, is a narrow-body passenger aircraft designed and produced by Boeing. It is the first member of the 737 MAX family of aircraft, which also includes the MAX 7, MAX 9, and MAX 10 variants.
The 737-8 is an updated version of the popular 737-800 model, with new engines and aerodynamic improvements that result in increased fuel efficiency and range. The MAX 8 is powered by CFM International LEAP-1B engines, which are designed to be quieter and more efficient than previous engine models. The aircraft also features new split-tip winglets that improve aerodynamic efficiency.
The 737-8 has a maximum capacity of 210 passengers, depending on the seating configuration chosen by the airline. It has a range of approximately 3,550 nautical miles (6,570 km) and a maximum cruising speed of Mach 0.79.
In recent years, the 737-8 has been the subject of controversy due to issues with its Maneuvering Characteristics Augmentation System (MCAS), a software system designed to improve the aircraft’s stability during flight. In 2018 and 2019, two 737-8 aircraft operated by Lion Air and Ethiopian Airlines, respectively, were involved in fatal crashes attributed to issues with the MCAS system. As a result, all 737 MAX aircraft were grounded worldwide for several months while Boeing worked to address the issues and ensure the aircraft’s safety. Since then, the 737-8 has undergone a series of software and hardware upgrades and has returned to service with various airlines around the world.
