1 review for COBI DUKW Amphibia D-Day #3110
Dustin G. (verified owner) –
We have yet another AMAZING WWII scale model kit from COBI, The amphibious DUKW. COBI again hit a home run with another detailed model kit. The DUKW was a very versatile piece of equipment during WWII. They were widely used in the D-Day invasion of France. The researchers and designers at COBI yet again included many small details that IMO make the model. I was very impressed with the cargo load included in this set, with numerous small arms, razor wire rolls, oil/fuel drums, Gerry cans, sand bags etc..I was impressed with the size of this particular model and again the attention to the small details. After WWII many of the DUKW trucks were sold in auctions and many of these vehicles found a second life after the war with many cities offering DUKW tours of their bays, islands and other maritime sites of interest. I actually took several of the Island DUKW tours around Galveston Bay. Unfortunately due to several high profile incidents with the DUKW vehicles having accidents, many cities did not allow them to be used for tourism, also the high cost of insurance and lack of parts led to many of the DUKW vehicles being retired. The Island DUKW tours of Galveston Island and surrounding areas ended in the early 2000’s, there are still many of these trucks in private hands and in military museums throughout the world, many are still in running condition, the 45th Infantry Museum in OKC still has several examples of the DUKW in different configurations and they have one they use in parades every year. COBI has done another great job representing this unusual vehicle along with numerous other great examples in their US Military collection, OUTSTANDING job with another great scale model set!
