  1. Five M. (verified owner)

I was very enthusiastic when COBI announced they were doing the WACO set, I already own both the old and new version of the C-47 and was wanting to display the WACO behind one of them just a little bit higher to simulate it is being towed in flight.

If you ever have viewed a documentary on the WACO, it took a special pilot to “fly” one of these gliders, they were often towed behind a C-47 Dakota or C-46 Commando in tandem (two gliders per tow plane.)

They were constructed of mostly wood and canvas so they offered little protection from ground fire and were many times overloaded by the cargo masters on the ground, it was very surprising the Dakota or Commando could get airborne towing these gliders which were usually loaded with fully kitted out paratroopers, sometimes along with a Jeep or light artillery.

COBI again has impressed with the details on this kit, whomever does the research on each model they produce does an excellent job many times designing a particular model kit from original blue prints produced during WWII and when possible interviewing veterans who served on that particular plane, tank, Jeep, Truck etc …

The WACO pilots did not receive enough recognition for their bravery and service during WWII, at least not the accolades reserved say for a bomber or fighter pilot during the war. I enjoy building and displaying each kit I purchase, I now own over 70 of them (all of them US kits,) most of my collection is from the WWII era, I want all of the WWII kits, but I am only getting the US kits, the COBI hobby is expensive (and a little frustrating when purchasing older, discontinued kits that are not missing any pieces or having heavy damage to their boxes,) but it still only costs around a 3rd of what LEGO kits do (also the COBI kits look like scale models compared to LEGO kits that still look like toys when built) and LEGO DOES NOT produce war kits, COBI found a niche market and they have very loyal customers.

I will be getting the 1/12th scale models of the Jeep (all three versions,) along with the DUKW which is another kit I am very excited that COBI released this year, I remember taking Island “DUCK” tours around Galveston Bay when I was much younger, the company that operated them had over 40 that were surplus from WWII. I cannot wait to see what COBI will be introducing in the near future for additional WWII kits, again I am very pleased and I really like doing business with your company, your rewards program and customer service are AMAZING and it sure is nice being able to contact the owner of MB.COM directly! You have a loyal customer in me Andy!
