The COBI Fairey Swordfish Executive Edition recreates one of the most recognizable British naval aircraft of World War II. Set #5769 includes 959 pieces and builds an impressive 1:32 scale model with a wingspan of nearly 17 inches.
Known affectionately as the “Stringbag,” the Fairey Swordfish looked outdated beside faster wartime aircraft. However, its rugged construction, low-speed handling, and reliable crews made it remarkably effective.

The Fairey Swordfish entered British service in 1936 as a carrier-based torpedo bomber. It gained fame during the November 1940 attack on the Italian fleet at Taranto. That raid demonstrated how carrier aircraft could cripple major warships inside a protected harbor.
Its most famous mission came on May 26, 1941. Swordfish aircraft launched from HMS Ark Royal through poor weather to attack the German battleship Bismarck. One torpedo damaged Bismarck’s steering and jammed her rudder. Unable to escape toward France, the battleship was overtaken by British forces the following day.

Collectors can complete this famous naval encounter by pairing the aircraft with the COBI Battleship Bismarck #4860.
The COBI Fairey Swordfish Executive Edition combines naval aviation history with a large and rewarding building experience. Its camouflage, crew, armament, display plaque, and elevated stand create a centerpiece worthy of any World War II aircraft collection.
Build the unlikely biplane that proved courage and reliability could still overcome speed and armor.
