1 review for COBI U-52 U-Boat Type VIIB Model #4852 (WW2 Naval Bricks)

This set is so fiddly and frustrating. The build starts off fine, but by the end I was so fed up with it that when I accidentally dropped and it exploded like a grenade I just scooped the parts up and put them back in the box. Here is what’s wrong with this set:
1. Missing part. There is a fairly crucial piece to the completion of the set completely missing. That being one of the long curved slope pieces on the side of the hull. That set the tone for the rest of the build, but was not a deal breaker. It would also make the third time that I would need to contact Cobi and wait a couple of months to get a replacement part.
2. The rudders are held on by a single bar and clip connection. It has zero friction and just flops and slides all over the place. The bow planes aren’t much better with an eye and bar connection.
3. Now for the most infuriating problem with the design, the ropes. It is way too easy to over tighten or over loosen the ropes. Even if you think to got them perfectly taut they pull parts they’re attached to way too easily. It is definitely a superglue necessary issue. Especially the aft lines that are attached in what Lego would consider an illegal technique of passing the line between a clip and the snot bricks it attaches to. What makes this worse is that the clip piece doesn’t want to seat all the way because of the clear pieces representing the railings.
4. Finally, the connection to the stand is absolutely abysmal. It is only attached by two studs on 1×2 single stud plates. The connection is so weak that literally breathing on it is enough to knock it off the stand. Cobi has the same plates with a longer stud
In their inventory. That would have been a much better connection.
