Originally built in the United Kingdom as a British U-class submarine, the HNoMS Uredd was transferred to the exiled Norwegian forces during the German occupation of Norway. Operating out of Lerwick, Shetland, she conducted numerous perilous missions, including the transport of Norwegian commandos and agents for sabotage operations against the German war machine.

Tragically, the Uredd became the only Norwegian submarine lost to enemy action during the war. In February 1943, while participating in “Operation Seagull”—a mission to land agents near Bodø—she struck a German minefield in Fugløyfjorden.
